London Wildlife Trust’s Future Garden has won a bronze medal at this year’s RHS Hampton Court Flower Show and is proving really popular with visitors.
The garden, which delivers an important message about wildlife and climate friendly gardening, was built by the Trust’s Expert Gardener Elaine Hughes and a group of dedicated staff and volunteers.
The bike wheel bird feeder is attracting lots of attention, and everybody loves the textural habitat wall. The most popular plants have to be the Nicotiana langsdorffii and Achillea ‘Terracotta’.
The weather has been pretty terrible - wind, rain, thunder and lightning - and the muddy show ground is starting to have something of the Glastonbury festival about it, but exhibitors and visitors are defying the elements and carrying on regardless. Everyone visiting the garden has left soggy but very inspired!
Staff and volunteers looking after the Future Garden are enjoying pointing out the garden’s quirky features and telling people about our new Garden for a Living London campaign. Many are pledging to make their gardens more wildlife and climate friendly – why don’t you pledge online too and download a how to guide to get you started? Visit our Garden for a Living London micro-site for loads of free and invaluable advice.
The garden and the campaign are attracting a lot of attention from the press, featuring on BBC London and BBC Two, and in the Evening Standard, the Daily Telegraph and Time Out to name just a few.
The show runs until Sunday 13th July – do come and visit us!
