Saturday, May 03, 2008

Boris Johnson has been elected mayor of London. We believe that the mayor is in a unique position to make a real difference in the protection and preservation of London’s wildlife and green spaces.

Boris JohnsonWe hope that Boris Johnson uses his unique role to make real advances in the quality and quantity of natural space in the capital, and people’s access to it.

Boris Johnson has made some key commitments to protecting and enhancing London’s wildlife and green spaces, including:

• Protecting London’s gardens from the threat of development
• Extending the ‘green grid’ across the whole of London, and protecting our green belt
• Protecting London’s biodiversity
• Conserving trees and woodland
• Ensuring that new housing developments are built in a sustainable way, with easy access to high-quality green space

London Wildlife Trust looks forward to engaging the new mayor and his administration on these and other conservation issues.
