Explore the de-paved gardens created by London Wildlife Trust in Herne Hill, as part of London National Park City Week

Have you heard of the Lost River Effra? This hidden river used to flow under Herne Hill, and still re-surfaces as floods when too much water enters our sewers.

London Wildlife Trust has been helping local people to reduce flood risk and make homes for wildlife. Come along to Oborne Close to see our de-pave gardens – created by taking up concrete which allows water to soak into the ground instead of overflowing the underground Effra.

Find out how they were done, talk to people involved and help tidy them up by doing some weeding, pruning or litter picking. All welcome!

Our project is all part of London Wildlife Trust’s Lost Effra Project, promoting ways of working with nature to reduce flood risk in the catchment of the ‘lost’ River Effra.
