Our Wild about Learning sessions provide unique, outdoor learning experiences that can improve children's self-esteem, confidence and abilities.
This is what it's all about, opening up our natural world to young enthusiasm and inspiring kids to love learning and being outdoors.

London Wildlife Trust has received valuable funding from players of People’s Postcode Lottery, which will enable us to deliver a series of 'Wild about Learning' outdoor classes to schoolchildren at the Centre for Wildlife Gardening in south London, and at Woodberry Wetlands in east London, throughout 2017.
The money will enable the Trust to deliver at least 100 outdoor education sessions for 2,700 primary school children from inner city schools in east and south London. Learning engagement officers will liaise with primary schools to plan, prepare, deliver and evaluate outdoor learning sessions on topics and activities including:
- Mini-beast hunts
- Frog days
- Pond dipping
- Exploring plants on the woodland trail
- Discovering animals of the reed bed
- Life cycles in the wetlands
Forest Schools sessions will also be provided as part of the outdoor learning programme funded by players of People's Postcode Lottery. See below for more details about this specialist learning experience.
Centre for Wildlife Gardening
The Centre for Wildlife Gardening in Peckham has been hosting outdoor learning sessions with south London schoolchildren, supported by players of People's Postcode Lottery, since February 2016.
The Centre has a long history of delivering high-quality outdoor education sessions and feedback has been very positive. Many schools come back to enjoy and learn from our sessions year after year and we look forward to welcoming more schools thanks to the support of players of People's Postcode Lottery.
The funding will also allow us to refine and improve our delivery offer using feedback from sessions and in particular work on improving our early years offer, as increasingly pre-school groups are using our services.
If your school is interested in taking part or would like to find out more, contact Sylvia Myers on 0207 252 9186 or email email@example.com
Wild about Learning sessions began at Woodberry Wetlands soon after its opening in May 2016, and have been supported from the start by players of People's Postcode Lottery.
Experienced trust staff work with primary schools to plan, deliver and evaluate outdoor learning sessions that include minibeast hunts, frog days, pond dipping, and a wildlife tour of the reservoir.
Schools interested in taking part in sessions at the Woodberry Wetlands can call Aleksander Makucewicz on 020 8802 4573 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
The generous funding received from players of People's Postcode Lottery will also be used to fund Forest Schools sessions in London.
Forest Schools get children outside and exploring nature in their own way and at their own pace. From fire-lighting to cooking, woodwork to bushcraft and natural art, they learn about the natural world in a safe environment.
Our Forest School sessions will be run by leaders who give children the freedom to learn and explore. They are trained to watch the children closely, appreciate different learning styles and personalities, and provide the right support for the individuals they care for.
This Forest Schools programme is part of a wider strategy for The Wildlife Trusts: to foster a love and appreciation of the environment in the people who will grow up to be its guardians.
About People’s Postcode Lottery
The Wildlife Trusts are very lucky to receive generous support from players of People's Postcode Lottery.
People's Postcode Lottery is a charity lottery in Great Britain where players play with their postcodes to win cash prizes whilst raising money for charities. A minimum of 30% from every £2 ticket goes directly to good causes like us.
In 2017 The Wildlife Trusts have been fortunate to receive £2.4million in funding from players of People’s Postcode Lottery to support our work across England, Scotland and Wales.
During the year, thanks to the support of players of People’s Postcode Lottery, The Wildlife Trusts will inspire and connect people to nature through precious species and wild places, provide thousands of children of all ages with opportunities to spend time in nature through a series of Forest School and outdoor learning activities and will stand up for and defend wild places when they face significant threat.
As 30% from every £2 ticket is awarded to charities and good causes, players of People's Postcode Lottery have raised over £182.7million to date
