Can you make a donation today to help secure the future of our reserves? Your donation will be doubled in value, enabling us to safeguard our reserves for wildlife and future generations.
Nature in London is under threat. As the population grows and development spreads to meet rising housing needs, London's wild spaces and wildlife are increasingly endangered. Our nature reserves across the city have never been more important or played a greater role. We have the skills and knowledge to make London a better place for nature and people, but we cannot do it alone.
Can you help us to raise £500k by June 2017? Heritage Lottery Fund has generously pledged a further £500k in match funding if we reach our target. This means that we will be doubling every pound you give to create the £1 million Wild London Future Fund. This will be invested and the dedicated annual drawdown will be used to safeguard our reserves and their expert management for all to enjoy, now and in the future.
London Wildlife Trust has had many successes, but the future of the UK’s wildlife is far from certain. A shocking 59% of urban species have declined and 35% have declined strongly, including iconic birds such as the swift and the house sparrow.
Our aspiration is that all the reserves under our stewardship will be regarded as examplars of best practice in nature conservation. We are determined to build a legacy for future generations of Londoners to enjoy and benefit from. The creation of the £1 million Wild London Future Fund will enable this to happen.
You can play a vital part in the future of London's wildlife and spaces. Donate today to secure the future of our reserves. Your gift will be doubled in value and enable us to:
Manage each reserve sensitively, taking into account its individual character and conservation needs
Maximise the use of sustainable and best practice conservation techniques, such as coppicing, scrub management and grazing of grassland
Ensure our reserves are accessible and safe
Train and support our network of volunteers and local groups
Monitor and record the biodiversity of our reserves to assess their condition and progress of management through an on-going programme of habitat and species surveys
Engage local communities through conservation activities and raise awareness through environmental education activities
Safeguard our reserves for future generations of people and wildlife
London Wildlife Trust also has the development of two wonderful new wetlands projects; Woodberry (due to open next year) and Walthamstow Wetlands, set to become one of the largest wetlands centres in Europe when it opens (partially) in 2016. We have been able to take on the exciting challenge of developing and managing these new wetlands in addition to our existing reserves thanks to the support we receive from our committed members.
Help us to protect London’s vital wildlife and wild spaces for the future. Complete the donation form below today. Thank you.
