Signs of Spring: Watercolour workshop with Wild Life Drawing
Camley Street Natural Park,
12 Camley Street, London, N1C 4PW
About the event
This friendly and relaxing workshop will take inspiration from British-grown springtime blooms and fresh foliage from the nature reserve.
Jennie will begin with a short introduction to the art of botanical illustration, then guide you through step-by-step to create your own artwork using pen and watercolours.
Jennie will begin with the basics of observational drawing, then demonstrate her favourite technique using pen and watercolour. The class will also shed light on composition, colour mixing and Jennie will share her top tips on capturing petals on paper.
Jennie will also be explaining some of the behind-the-scenes processes that went into her flower-filled children's book 'It Starts with a Bee'. We can assure you that you'll never look at a flower in the same way again!
All materials are provided, but you're welcome to bring your own along if you prefer. This inclusive class is designed for all ability levels, especially beginners. Encouraging and full of positivity, our aim is for you to leave with a painting you can be proud of and a deep appreciation for the natural world.
A little about your tutor
Jennie Webber is an artist and illustrator that finds all her inspiration in the natural world. She began Wild Life Drawing in 2014, and her magical drawing classes with real animals (and flowers!) have been raising money and awareness for conservation ever since. Jennie has illustrated a variety of nature-themed children's books and is currently working on a guide to drawing animals from life, due to be published in 2027.
A little about Camley Street
Camley Street Natural Park is a unique urban nature reserve, having been saved from development and opened to the public in 1985. Historically the site was a coal drop for the railways into nearby King’s Cross Station, but today it is a pocket paradise for people and wildlife. Why not have a walk around before your session and find some botanical inspiration?
