A statement from London Wildlife Trust: Diversity in the conservation sector

Our vision is of a London alive with nature, where everyone can experience and enjoy wildlife and the wider environment.

London is one of the greenest cities in the world. With over 35,000 acres of public green spaces and over 3000 parks, over 40% of Greater London consists of parks and green spaces.

London is also one of the most ethnically diverse cities in the world. With over 300 languages spoken, over 40% of residents are Asian, Black, or from mixed or other ethnic groups.

Yet research shows that people of colour have always faced many different barriers to being able to enjoy our city’s nature.

Furthermore, only 3.1% of environment professionals are Black, Asian or from Minoritised Ethnic groups. The nature conservation sector is not as inclusive as it should be, and we are working hard to change that.

We want all Londoners, from all backgrounds, to feel welcome, to enjoy wildlife and be proud to work to help nature’s recovery.

We will continue to work hard to be truly representative of London’s diverse communities.
