London is much wilder than you might think.
In his upcoming BBC documentary Wild London, co-produced by London Wildlife Trust, Sir David Attenborough explores the hidden world of the capital’s wildlife - revealing the extraordinary species that live alongside us and just how wild London really is.
For many, the city means concrete, crowds and the sound of traffic — but between London’s busy streets and rooftops, along its canals and railway lines, wildlife is quietly making its home.
Over 18,000 species of plants, animals and fungi have been found in London — from foxes roaming residential streets and harvest mice nesting in grasslands, to peregrine falcons flying high above the skyline and hedgehogs foraging in our gardens. Even in the heart of the city, nature is beautifully present if you take the time to look.
Wild London will broadcast on New Year's Day, 6:30pm on BBC One and will be available on BBC iPlayer. It is a Passion Planet production.

We’re lucky to share London with many incredible animals and plants — but this nature is fragile. Across the city, habitat loss and fragmentation, pollution and climate change are leaving fewer safe places for wildlife to live. Our precious species are disappearing. Our city is turning from green to grey.
We know that nature doesn't have to suffer for London to grow. For over 40 years, London Wildlife Trust has been caring for the capitalʼs wildlife. We restore habitats, bring back species, and care for reserves across the city so that people and wildlife can thrive side by side in a wilder city.
London Wildlife Trust is fighting for a London alive with wildlife, for nature in everyone’s neighbourhood.
