About the event
Isleworth Ait is a wooded island nature reserve in the tidal Thames in west London. Home to a wide variety of birdlife and rare molluscs, is accessible only by boat and is not normally open to the public. It is managed by a local group of volunteers on behalf of London Wildlife Trust.
The tour begins on the quay on Church Street, Isleworth from where we travel across to the island by boat. What3words: grew.they.button.
The tour of the island itself is on foot along a rough footpath through the woods and back, a total distance of about one mile. Visitors will also need to be willing and able to climb comfortably into and out of the motor boat.
WHAT TO WEAR: Wellington Boots are essential (we may need to wade in the river getting on or off the boat) and should, preferably, be fitted with steel shanks. Please also wear suitable clothing with long-sleeves and long trousers. Headwear is also recommended. Please carry water and snacks.
PLEASE NOTE: the tours may need to be cancelled at short notice (including on the day) due to adverse weather or river conditions or other unforeseen circumstances. There are no formal toilet facilities on the Ait.
This event is for adults aged 18+ only.
This event is part of Totally Thames, a festival curated by Thames Festival Trust which strives to be ‘the cultural voice of the river’ and includes many river and river-related events.
