This event is part of the ‘Wild London Lates’ series taking place at the Coal House at Woodberry Wetlands, where experts share their knowledge about various wildlife and natural world topics, and the importance of protecting the green spaces in London.

The events are a great way for people to come along and hear about these topics and ask questions, all in the relaxed Coal House environment.

Wednesday 2nd May

super/collider: Pop-up Astronomy Club at Woodberry Wetlands

Join super/collider for an unforgettable night of star gazing with astronomer Paul Hill, in an oasis of natural darkness within the city.

Through three different telescopes, Paul will open up a world of celestial objects from the grounds of Woodberry Wetlands. Paul will take you on a guided tour of the heavens, describing the historical understandings of different constellations. This is a brilliant opportunity to ask an astronomer any questions you have about space in an informal environment.

The night sky will be dominated by two solar system giants. Venus, which has been shining brightly in the evening sky for a couple of months now and Jupiter which comes to opposition – it’s closest position to Earth – in 7 days time. This will provide a fantastic opportunity to see Jupiter’s cloud belts as well as the four main ‘Galilean’ moons, Io, Europa, Callisto and Ganymede.

Paul is an elected fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society, co-presenter and writer of the popular Awesome Astronomy podcast, committee member of the world famous Baker Street Irregular Astronomers and has appeared on BBC News and Radio to discuss a range of astronomy and space issues as well as being interviewed on the BBC’s flagship astronomy program, The Sky At Night. He is also part of the team that runs the bi-annual, family friendly AstroCamp in the Brecon Beacons.
