Exhibition: 'Sunshine on The Water' by Pik Cheng, Kin Wong and Eunjung Kim
Walthamstow Wetlands,
Walthamstow Wetlands, 2 Forest Road , Walthamstow, London, N17 9NHAbout the event
Three UK-based international artists proudly present their artworks at the
Engine House Mezzanine Gallery, located at Walthamstow Wetlands, a London Wildlife Trust nature reserve.
‘Sunshine On The Water’ explores the cradle of life and environmental
preservation, responding to the interplay between light, water, flora and fauna in the 160-hectare nature reserve.
In this exhibition, the artists Pik Cheng, Kin Wong and Eunjung Kim work in
diversified media - including but not limited to painting, watercolour and prints.
Each artist migrated from Asia to the United Kingdom, just like the transient
waterbirds who migrate from wetlands along the East Asian and Australian
Flyway. Their art works are therefore informed by their diasporic experiences
and synthesize both Eastern and Western aesthetics.
Cheng adopts a psycho-geographical approach, walking in the scrubland and
along the waterfront to explore how emotions are entangled with nature.
Wong depicts the vibrancy of urban life alongside the natural world. Kim’s
work visualises the quiet rhythm of nature through botanical art, capturing the
movement of plants.
A few words about Pik Cheng and her work:
Pik Cheng is a multidisciplinary UK and Hong Kong artist. She learned fine art at the
Royal College of Art and the Cambridge School of Art. Being an environmentalist, she cares about the coexistence of humans, animals, and nature. Adopting a
psychogeography approach, she investigates how emotions are entangled with body motion, space, and nature. Walking in the brush and on the waterfront is a key
process for her art inspiration. Water, birds, and plants in her artworks are
metaphors to explore her notion of freedom, existence, and resilience.
A few words about Kin Wong and his work:
After a decade of teaching art and design in Hong Kong, Kin Wong has now returned to the UK, where he first studied Fine Arts over twenty years ago. His passion lies in capturing the delicate interplay of light and shadow in nature through watercolour.
Whether depicting architectural heritage, the vibrancy of urban life, or the beauty of nature itself, his work is characterized by a delicate and soft blending of colours to
bring out the varied hues and transparency. His artworks draw viewers into a vivid,
sensory experience, revealing the beauty and complexity of the scenes he portrays.
A few words about Eunjung Kim and her work:
Eunjung Kim is a multidisciplinary artist working at the intersection of botanical art
and sculpture. Having studied at the Royal College of Art in London, she creates
installations using natural materials to explore cycles of growth, decay, and
regeneration. By combining 2D imagery with 3D forms, her work visualises the quiet rhythms of nature while reflecting on human-nature relationships. Her practice
expands into a meditation on the emotional tensions and contradictions of
contemporary life. Through a slow, layered process, she raises questions about care, fragility, and sustainability in a world marked by constant change and unseen labour.
