The project aims to empower and inspire 600 young people ages 11-25, from backgrounds currently under-represented in natural heritage, to take part in hands-on, practical conservation work to help the nature on their doorsteps to ‘keep wild’. The role will involve:

  • Initiating relationship building and outreach activities with youth organisations, youth clubs, youth workers and young people in venues and greenspaces near to London Wildlife Trust nature reserves.
  • Planning, organising and delivering a ‘Wild Action Programme’ (eight week programme for young people) incorporating work readiness and media skills training.
  • Liaising with site managers to plan, organise and deliver a programme of conservation works on Trust nature reserves. Ensuring that these activities are accessible, differentiated and meet the needs of young people.
  • Monitoring and evaluating project activities, ensuring that all statistics are recorded on London Wildlife Trust Skipper database.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have demonstrable experience of planning and delivering a range of outreach activities for young people.
  • Have the experience and ability to work with a range of age groups and people from diverse backgrounds and abilities.
  • Have experience surveying and monitoring species and delivering outdoor learning activities
  • Be able to evidence their knowledge of London’s young people and an understanding of the issues they face.
  • Have excellent communication skills, with an enthusiastic, tenacious and positive ‘can do’ attitude and a creative mind set (some experience of social media engagement, blogs, etc. is preferred)

London Wildlife Trust manages more than 35 nature reserves across the capital that are exemplars of urban conservation land management and which greatly benefit the local communities that use these sites. The Trust delivers projects focusing on protecting priority habitats and wildlife species in London and works to influence policy makers to support this work. The Trust engages London’s diverse communities through access to our nature reserves, volunteering programmes and education and outreach work.
