Wild Life Drawing: Marvellous Minibeasts at Woodberry Wetlands (Afternoon)
Woodberry Wetlands,
Woodberry Wetlands, Main Entrance via New River Path Lordship Road, London, N16 5HQAbout the event
Join us and the wonderful Wild Life Drawing team to explore the magical world of minibeasts at Woodberry Wetlands.
With 1.4 billion insects for every human on earth, they are as plentiful as they are useful, acting as pollinators, nutrient recyclers and pest controllers – essential for the overall health of our ecosystem. From butterflies to beetles, snails to spiders, there is so much colour and character to appreciate when we take the time to really look.
We will begin the class with a bug hunt out on the nature reserve. Accompanied by a London Wildlife Trust guide, we will be lifting logs and turning leaves to find and ID our invertebrate neighbours here in the UK. Then we'll head back to the classroom to meet and draw some mega minibeasts from further afield, including giant land snails, prickly leaf stick insects, tarantulas, scorpions and giant train millipedes.
Artist and nature lover Laura Cuppage will lead the session, providing plenty of creative guidance along the way. Our animal expert Lauren will teach us all about each species while we sketch them from a safe distance. There will be plenty of time for all your questions, so by the end of the session you will not only have some drawings to be proud of, but you’ll have also learned some cool new facts to keep in your back pocket!
This class is suitable for adults and families alike, we just ask for children to be over 5 years of age and accompanied by an adult also taking part in the class. All abilities are welcome- whether your sketching skills are still emerging or you’ve metamorphaised into a beautifully skilled artist!
